Freelance Video Production

“Napalm” & “Tell Them” Music Video Creation:

In 2024, I was commissioned to create two music videos for PURJ’s EP, inspired by the theft of his bike. I was approached with this concept and collaborated closely with PURJ to refine the creative direction. The primary concept for the videos implemented footage and images of PURJ riding his bicycle, as well as CCTV footage capturing the bike getting stolen.

Using the 3D sandbox environment, “Garry’s Mod,” I created simulations featuring a character representing the bike thief, depicting him stealing a bike and flying away, which were captured and seamlessly spliced into the video. Using TouchDesigner, I rendered the artist’s name in a 3D space, repeated in a shifting warped pattern.

Alongside building the main thematic elements of the videos, PURJ asked me to utilize my trademark editing style. This style is characterized by bold icons and contrasting images within a landscape of constantly dynamic textures and glitches, while being meticulously synced to the intense rhythms in the music. Countless passes of technically advanced renders combining glitched feedback loops coded in TouchDesigner with gratuitous layering of digital assets. An essential aspect of the video is its use of Clipart and GIFs scavenged from the depths of the internet’s archive of 1990s and early 2000s shareware CDs, and carefully selected Greenscreen effects.

The combination of this trademark editing style, hyperactive music, and the conveyance of a genuine and relatable story complete with unique comedic elements created a beautifully chaotic pair of music videos. Careful coordination with the artist helped deliver an outstanding display of creative exhibition for a successful release campaign.

“Tinnitus” Music Video Creation:

I was commissioned to create a music video for Synova’s single “Tinnitus,” blending the energy of his live DJ performances with vibrant nostalgic visuals inspired by early internet culture. The video includes live footage—some recorded by me—interwoven with my signature editing style of synchronized glitches and surreal imagery. At Synova’s request, the video highlights themes from the video game RuneScape, tying into the broader retro internet aesthetic of his album The Death of The Internet.

The video features a rich mix of 2000s-inspired visuals, including old web icons and buttons, footage from racing video games, uncanny retro CGI renders, custom-designed AOL chat boxes, spinning 3D clipart GIFs, clips of flip phone advertisements, and artwork I created using obsolete digital art software. These elements are meticulously animated in Adobe Premiere and seamlessly layered with vibrant textures and rhythmic strobing glitches, all synced to the track’s intense energy.

To create dynamic visual effects, I developed a dynamic file in TouchDesigner that allowed me to switch between a palette of effects live using my computer keyboard. This setup enabled me to record a live performance of visual manipulations, which I later exported and spliced with the unedited pass of the video in Adobe Premiere. The effects included automated texture displacement, a rapid-fire sequence of curated images timed to the song’s BPM, and intense edge feedback modeled after analog video synthesis.

Additionally, I used the T3X2R Max for Live plugin to program audio-reactive visuals and 3D Geometry in Ableton Live, enhancing the interplay between sound and imagery. The result is a chaotic yet meticulously crafted video that embodies the hyper-digital, nostalgic themes of Synova’s work while delivering a uniquely immersive visual experience.
